PEP Expands Financial Literacy Workshops

Thanks to the generous support of the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis in 2022, the Prison Education Project completed a series of reentry workshops on a variety of topics, from technology and digital literacy to health literacy. In 2023, PEP has been able to expand the reach of these workshops by partnering with Criminal Justice Ministry, a St. Louis nonprofit focused on supporting and empowering people impacted by incarceration through reentry services, and Justine PETERSEN, a Missouri nonprofit that connects institutional resources with the needs of low-to moderate-income individuals and families to help them build financial assets and create enduring change.

Workshop participants, who were a blend of formerly incarcerated people engaging in CJM’s programming and PEP alumni, participated in financial literacy modules led by PEP Reentry Advocate Denis Shine and applied for credit building services with Justine PETERSEN. PEP will offer a second workshop focused on financial literacy for CJM clients on March 25th, 2023.
